EUGENE, Ore. — An Oregon woman has pleaded guilty to hitting a pedestrian and carrying him on top of her car for 11 blocks before dumping the man along a side road. The 67-year-old man died from his injuries.
The Register-Guard reports that 31-year-old Isabel McDaniel pleaded guilty to eight charges on Thursday, including criminally negligent homicide, for the December 2014 crash that killed Daniel Ortiz-Reynaga.
McDaniel was sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison. She is eligible to have the term reduced by a year or more for good behavior while in custody.
McDaniel declined to make any statement during her sentencing hearing. Her attorney, John Halpern, said afterward that McDaniel is “a very nice woman” who accepts responsibility for her actions.
