Aviation students dress down to raise money

Edgewood Park — The first Friday of each month, students at the International Air and Hospitality Academy were allowed to dress down in more casual clothing instead of their school uniforms.

All they had to do to dress down was give the school $1, which was put in a fund to be donated to local charities.

Last year, students raised more than $2,700, primarily from Dress Down Days, which went to things such as Christmas gift cards for Share, backpacks and school supplies for Harney Elementary School students and wildfire relief efforts through the American Red Cross.

“It gives them a chance to express themselves, but they also seem to embrace the opportunity to help the community,” said Cindi Berry, head of the academy’s charitable contribution group, in a release from the school. “And it’s not just our airline students who donate. Our railroad, wind energy, culinary and hospitality management students participate, as well as our entire staff.”
