Professional Writers Series opens at WSUV

Vancouver — Washington State University’s annual Professional Writers Series opens at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 in the Multimedia Classroom Building, Room 6 on campus, 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave. Parking is available at meters and in the Blue Daily pay lot for $1.50 after 5 p.m. Parking is free after 7 p.m.

The six free, public lectures will focus on graphic novels, film criticism, mysteries, memoirs, essays and poetry.

• Jan. 28: “Edgy Media — The Graphic Novel” by Jacob and Arnold Pander. The brothers, who helped launch the independent comics revolution while still in their teens, have produced 65 works with Marvel, DC and Dark Horse.

• Feb. 11: “What Makes Hollywood Hip?” by Steven Rea, movie critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

• Feb. 25: “The Legal Thriller” by Phillip Margolin.

• March 10: “The Art of the Memoir” by Judith Barrington.

• March 24: “Hello World: The Personal Essay” by Sallie Tisdale.

• April 14: “Poetry and the Spoken Word” by Zarah Moeggenberg.
