Letter: Clean water is imperative

Hillary Clinton is right: “Every American should be outraged” by what is happening in Flint, Mich., a predominately African-American community where residents have been drinking dangerously polluted water for over a year. Children have been exposed to extraordinary levels of lead poisoning with serious life-altering consequences.

The president has declared an emergency to help mobilize assistance while others are calling for an investigation to get to the bottom of how this happened.

On the heels of this disaster, our Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler has joined with her fellow Republicans to vote to weaken the 1972 Clean Water Act. Apparently, she believes we can protect our children from harm’s way by protecting the polluters. Sadly, we have come to expect nothing less from our congresswoman.
