Letter: Firm up stand against oil trains

By Richard van Dijk, Brush Prairie
Published: July 1, 2016, 6:00am

Our governor, Jay Inslee, gave BNSF a pass last week claiming they do a better job than Union Pacific in track inspections — so it appears it is OK for oil trains from BNSF to continue.

BNSF may do a better job by walking the tracks but they do not seem to be able to keep their trains from colliding head on, as happened just recently near Amarillo, Texas.

It is beyond comprehension to try to visualize the carnage and subsequent environmental disaster if one was an oil train and this happened while passing through Vancouver or anywhere along the Columbia River.

It is time for the governor to stop pussyfooting around and forcefully oppose oil trains.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
