BELLINGHAM — Fire officials say a $30,000 city of Bellingham public works pickup truck was destroyed in what they’re investigating as arson.

The Bellingham Herald reports firefighters were called early Tuesday to a fire behind the Bellingham Municipal Court building.

Bellingham fire Assistant Chief Bill Hewett says it looked like someone had tried to light six several vehicles on fire, but only one took off.

Bellingham police Lt. Bob Vander Yacht says the fire started in the 2012 half-ton Chevrolet Colorado truck’s fuel neck and was deliberately set.

The damaged trucks have scorch marks and will be repaired, officials said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 360-778-8752.
