Clark County sheriff’s deputies arrested a burglary suspect early Saturday morning after he led them on a high-speed car chase, eluded them, crashed his car and took off on foot.

According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at Quick Shop Minit Mart, 12604 N.W. 36th Ave., at about 3:15 a.m. Deputy Tom Maxfield attempted to stop a vehicle at the store, but it fled and a brief pursuit ensued. For safety reasons, the pursuit was called off — but the suspect kept speeding.

Within minutes, Deputy Jack Phane observed the same vehicle traveling more than 90 mph eastbound on Northeast 99th Street. The vehicle crossed Highway 99, lost control and crashed into a power pole. The driver ran from the scene and was pursued on foot by Deputy Phane, who took the male suspect, Cody I. Christianson, into custody.

Christianson, 37, was booked into the Clark County Jail on two counts of burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, malicious mischief, attempt to elude, theft and driving with a suspended license. He has multiple prior felony arrests in Cowlitz County and is the suspect in another recent burglary in Hazel Dell, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The car he was driving turned out to be stolen from the Kelso area.
