The man accused of fatally shooting his wife in their Five Corners home last month was arraigned Thursday in Clark County Superior Court.

Todd Richard Marjama Jr., 27, entered not-guilty pleas to first-degree murder and first-degree assault. The victim in the assault charge is listed as Marjama’s 2-year-old daughter, according to the prosecution.

Marjama, who previously appeared wearing a suicide-prevention smock, on Thursday wore an orange jumpsuit, and his left hand and arm were in a cast.

He is scheduled to begin trial Aug. 22. He is not to have contact with his 2-year-old daughter.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a weapons disturbance at about 8:45 p.m. June 28 at the Marjama’s home, 7312 N.E. 109th Ave. Upon arrival, they found Marjama’s wife, Amanda, dead from a gunshot wound, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Superior Court.

The Marjamas lived at the residence with their three children — ages 2, 4 and 7 — court documents said, along with Amanda Marjama’s adult brother, Donald Bestpitch. The brother and three children were home at the time of the shooting.

Family members said they found Amanda Marjama dead in the master bedroom’s bathroom, according to the affidavit. Todd Marjama ran from the scene, but officers caught up with him a few blocks away and arrested him.

Another family member told officers that Todd Marjama had in the past made threats to kill his wife and children. The family tried to persuade Amanda Marjama to get a restraining order against him, court records said.

Deputy Prosecutor Luka Vitasovic told the court Thursday that his office may file additional charges in the case.

Todd and Amanda Marjama had been fighting for weeks over an apparent affair that Todd Marjama had, according to family members. Todd Marjama also reportedly told a relative that his wife had been corresponding with a male friend over the internet, the affidavit states.

According to his booking information, Marjama told officials that he was honorably discharged in 2014 after serving two tours in Afghanistan.

He said he’s on a waiting list with Veterans Affairs for treatment of a traumatic brain injury.
