PORTLAND — A suspect in an early morning robbery Wednesday was arrested in Southeast Portland after an extensive effort by police that involved tactical officers and crisis negotiators.
The incident began shortly after midnight when police responded to a home in the 2600 block of Southeast 52nd Avenue on a report of an armed person breaking in and stealing a car and cell phone.
A short time later, police responded to an attempted car theft, this time in the 2000 block of Southeast 51st Avenue.
The report said an armed suspect was trying to steal a car out of a garage. Police found both cars and began to search for the suspect, an effort that involved the bureau’s tactical team, crisis negotiators and the air support unit, which flew overhead.
