In Douglas J. Munson’s July 15 letter (Time for “No More Madore!”), he wondered why no local Republican Party official has asked Councilor David Madore to withdraw his candidacy. I think there’s an obvious reason why that isn’t happening. Several times in recent weeks, a local Republican Party official’s name has appeared in news stories and, each time, that official is praising or speaking out in favor of things that Madore is trying to force upon us, leaving little doubt in my mind (and probably in the minds of thousands of Clark County residents) that Madore is influencing or controlling the actions of the local Republican Party. As long as Madore has that ability, there’s not going to be any local Republican Party official asking him to withdraw his candidacy.
And speaking of Madore’s ability to influence and/or control, several other candidates have publicly stated that they agree with many of the things Madore is trying to do. That could mean even if Madore is not re-elected, he could continue to influence or control those candidates if they are elected. That leaves me thinking that if a candidate appears to be “a Madore puppet,” we should not vote for them.
