BREMERTON — Large donations will help Olympic and Mount Rainier national parks tackle mounting trail maintenance challenges.

The Kitsap Sun reports that the National Park Foundation announced recently it had received a $2 million gift from a retired investment manager with ties to Seattle and $1 million from the foundation created by Kent-based outdoor retailer REI.

Much of the combined $3 million will be divided between Olympic and Mount Rainier National Park for trail improvement projects. The exact allotments have not been announced.
