Union group plans Burgerville protest

A labor group trying to organize Burgerville workers plans to picket a Vancouver restaurant this afternoon.

The protest is planned for 3 p.m. at the location at 8320 N.E. Vancouver Plaza Drive. Among the labor organizers’ demands are a $5 per hour wage increase. The Portland Industrial Workers of the World group has been trying to unionize the Vancouver-based fast food chain since April.

In April, Burgerville management said the average hourly pay company-wide is $11.36 per hour, and in Oregon the average is $10.89 per hour. More than half of the employees are 22 or younger.
