Letter: McDevitt better Democratic choice

By Nancy Macnab, VANCOUVER

Around the same time in October 2015 that an unknown David McDevitt was hard at work on his progressive campaign for Congress, Jim Moeller announced his bid for lieutenant governor. Fast forward to May 19. The Columbian broke a story, “Moeller to take on Herrera Beutler,” that his previous bid for lieutenant governor had abruptly switched, and he was running for U.S. Congress, the same seat the now-not-so-unknown McDevitt had been seeking for months. Moeller saw the opportunity Congress offered and abandoned ship; during filing week, nine other candidates filed for the lieutenant governor race. Moeller knew he was a weak candidate and this was going to be a “hard” race for him to win. McDevitt has been steadfast in his campaign, traveling all over the district. McDevitt has our Washington in mind while campaigning, not the other, like his Democratic opponent. David McDevitt is the progressive statesman that we need.
