PORTLAND — A reverend in Portland who won a semi-automatic assault weapon says he can’t wait to destroy it.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports Jeremy Lucas won an AR-15 rifle that was raffled for a girls’ softball league traveling to California for a tournament.
Lucas told the Oregonian he was a little disturbed by the raffle, saying he wants to live in a world where a girls’ softball team doesn’t have to raffle off a gun because it’s the quickest way to make money.
His goals were to help the team get to the tournament and make sure the gun never made it onto the street. He bought 150 of 499 tickets using $3,000 in church discretionary funds, and won.
Lucas says he’s talking with artists to find a way to repurpose the weapon.
