Detectives are investigating after an injured man was found lying in a pool of blood at Marine Park late Sunday night. The man is expected to survive.

A citizen called 911 at 11:50 p.m. Sunday after finding a man in the north parking lot of the park, which is along the Columbia River in central Vancouver, said Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

The man, who had suffered significant head injuries, was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, Kapp said. She said he is expected to survive.

Police are not releasing the victim’s name in order to protect his safety. The man, who was undergoing medical treatment, couldn’t be interviewed yet by detectives about how he was hurt, Kapp said.

Major crimes detectives haven’t found any witnesses yet and are working to construct a timeline of the incident, she said.
