Vancouver — C-Tran is giving free rides to passengers June 16 as part of national “Dump the Pump Day.”

All C-Tran services and routes will be free for the day, including local, limited and express routes, C-Van and the Connector. The transit agency says the service is a good opportunity to give public transportation a try.

C-Tran staff will also be at Fisher’s Landing Transit Center and the 99th Street Transit Center from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday, June 16, to say thank you and offer a chance to win a monthly pass for July.

This is the 11th year for Dump the Pump Day. The event encourages people to ride public transportation rather than driving, with its unpredictable cost at the gas pump. According to the American Public Transportation Association, cited in the C-Tran news release on the event, choosing transit over a daily commute by car can save more than $9,000 per year.

Throughout the day, riders will receive stickers to show their participation; the transit agency will also be using the hashtag #dumpthepumpCTRAN on social media.
