Woodland — White Oak Alpacas hosted Sheared Delights on May 21 and 22, welcoming guests to the farm to meet alpacas and see how clothing items are made from fleece.

Local vendors were on hand to sell items and to show how to blend fibers and colors, spin on drop spindles and build and repair wheels and looms. In one of the barns, guests could hear about the process of the fleece going from alpaca to roving ready for the spinner to turn it into yarn.

A big draw at Sheared Delights is also the opportunity for kids to get up close and pet an alpaca. “Alpacas are very curious about children,” Karin Finch, owner of White Oak, wrote in an email. “All the children were so nice and respectful of the alpacas that the girls readily gave nose kisses and ate carrots through the fence.”
