Letter: Intent is not easily recognizable

Brad Elfring, in his June 21 letter “Protect ability for self-defense,” thinks those poor souls in Orlando, Fla., may have died because they were unarmed. I don’t want to be in a bar or a theater when some whacko starts shooting and 14 well-meaning amateurs haul out their guns and start blasting back. How many innocent folks would die in that exchange? I also don’t want to be standing up with a gun in my hand to defend myself when the cops kick in the door and all they see is me with a gun out.

God save us from people who mean well.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
