Washougal — Gause Elementary School students, teachers and parents raised more than $10,000 for the American Heart Association through the “Jump Rope for Heart” program. The school held a competition between classes, and the students who raised the most were awarded the opportunity to spray Silly String on Principal Rex Larson and Mark Bauer, a physical education instructor. Allison McGranahan’s first-grade class took the top prize. “‘Jump Rope for Heart’ promotes physical education and ties in with the school’s physical education curriculum,” Bauer said in a news release from the school. “Students learn how physical activity can prevent stroke and heart disease while raising funds for cardiovascular disease research, stroke research, and health education.”
