It appears Columbia River High School’s first search for a new football coach in more than 20 years is complete.

Christian Swain, who resigned as football coach at Portland’s Roosevelt High School, told The Oregonian/Oregon Live on Monday that he will be the new coach at Columbia River.

A Vancouver Public Schools official told The Columbian on Monday night that the “Columbia River administration is hoping to announce the hiring as soon as it becomes official.”

Swain has been the coach at Roosevelt for seven seasons, according to The Oregonian. His team won the Portland Interscholastic League title in 2013.

This will be Columbia River’s first new head football coach since John O’Rourke was hired in 1994. O’Rourke, who compiled a record of 154-77 in his 22 seasons, retired in February.

Columbia River will be moving from Class 3A to Class 2A beginning in the fall.
