Letter: There’s still time if you act soon

The Port of Vancouver commissioners still have time to end the lease agreement with Tesoro-Savage (now called Vancouver Energy), but that time is running out.

Now that the voters have spoken in electing Eric LaBrant as the newest commissioner, we need to give him our support in encouraging Brian Wolfe to join him in terminating the lease. But, this must happen before the end of July. If the commissioners do nothing, the lease will not only continue to await the Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council ruling, and Gov. Jay Inslee’s final decision, that lease could sit dormant while Tesoro awaits a new governor down the road who just might approve their project.

I encourage the public to voice their support for ending this lease by sending an email to povcommissioners@portvanusa.com. After sending the email, it would be wise to attend a port meeting to make sure that the email actually got to the commissioners. Or, make a call to ensure that your communications passed by the gatekeeper, CEO Todd Coleman. The phone number is 360-693-3611, and you can leave a message for LaBrant or Wolfe to ensure that your email was received.

The port meets at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday, so if this week doesn’t work, there is always another one.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
