Imagine you’re driving down Evergreen Highway, stereo blasting, when your beautiful singing is interrupted by a pothole that came out of nowhere trying to eject you from your seat … you even have to swerve a bit to avoid the bicyclist riding where there should be a sidewalk. Being littered with potholes begging to cause chaos, poor lighting, and the lack of a sidewalk makes Evergreen Highway put pedestrians and drivers in danger.
The road has had a few touch-ups here and there, but problems have accumulated over time. Because there are so many issues, there just isn’t enough money in our city to make all the repairs. Vancouver only gets so much funding dedicated to fixing roads, and the repairs Evergreen Highway needs would take most of it.
If residents hope to see repairs soon, Evergreen Highway’s problems need to be broken up and prioritized. What can we do? Take things one step at a time. If residents petitioned to get potholes filled, the city would allocate money for specifically that. Once that issue gets solved, we move onto the next.
In the meantime, be sure to be extra cautious on the old Evergreen Highway.
