BATTLE GROUND — After a monthslong search, Battle Ground will have a new city manager starting April 1.

On Friday, Clark County Director of Economic Development Jeff Swanson sent in a letter of resignation, in which he wrote that he’s leaving because he was offered the Battle Ground city manager position. According to the letter, obtained by The Columbian, Swanson’s last day with the county will be March 31.

Swanson will succeed John Williams, who was Battle Ground’s city manager from 2010 until Dec. 3. Williams left to take the city manager job in Moses Lake.

“I will miss the daily, regular interaction with the close-knit team at the county, though I know bonds of friendship will endure and we will have opportunities to partner and continue to work together in new capacities,” Swanson wrote in his resignation letter.

Although the city hasn’t officially announced the hire, Swanson was one of six finalists for the position and appeared at an open house to meet with community members on March 3 along with the other finalists.
