I often wonder why the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District community libraries in Clark County have been allowed to deteriorate so much.
On a recent visit, several patrons were trying to use the public computers for serious research. However, the computer area was jammed with video game players who dominate the environment. They gather around computers causing a lot of commotion, making it near impossible to do any serious reading or concentration. Several are wildly playing a game called “Total Jerkface,” running back and forth and loudly talking.
Does this sound like something a library was intended for? Maybe I am old-fashioned but I always thought a library was for quiet reading and learning.
I am sure the library managers are touting the large amount of daily traffic, hoping to get increased funding. My wish would be that the libraries should be returned to their original purpose, and gaming should be banned.
