Two Portland women were arrested after Battle Ground police responded to an alcohol theft only to discover drugs and other stolen items.

Officers responded to the Battle Ground Albertsons store on March 7 for a report of theft of alcohol, but during the investigation and arrest, officers discovered drugs, drug paraphernalia and stolen credit cards and driver’s licenses not belonging to the women, police said.

Janae Kelley, 36, was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and third-degree theft. Brittani Newton, 30, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and third-degree theft.
