PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A man who burglarized a Portland home and was found sitting on a toilet with a knife in his hand has been sentenced to 3 ½ years in prison.

The Oregonian reports (http://goo.gl/5FDYdm ) that 35-year-old Ryan Allen Cain was sentenced after pleading no contest to two counts of first-degree burglary.

Court records say that Cain had broken into a residence in November and was found by the homeowner in the bathroom. The two men got into a fight, and the resident was able to grab Cain’s knife and get him to leave the home.

Cain told a judge he had been high on methamphetamine at the time.

Cain’s attorney says his client has struggled with substance abuse, but has never been violent.
