The Columbia River baseball team is back on top of the 3A Greater St. Helens League.
For the past two seasons, River and Kelso have jousted atop the league, with Kelso taking the crown last year.
But after beating Kelso 13-5 on Monday, the Chieftains are once again league champions.
Both River and Kelso finished league play 7-2. But with Monday’s win, the Chieftains claim the title by having won two of three against Kelso.
River is the league’s No. 1 seed heading into the bi-district tournament. The Chieftains face Hazen on Saturday in Kelso.
Columbia River took a 5-0 lead by scoring four runs in the fourth. A triple by Josh Ebert was the key hit. River opened an 8-1 lead in the top of the sixth. Ebert and Taylor Easterly each finished with two hits. Ebert, Alex McGarry and Paul Meister each drove in two runs.
