Ted Cruz withdrew his bid for the Republican presidential nomination on Tuesday, only hours after announcing he planned to make a campaign stop in Vancouver.

Cruz suffered a blistering defeat to Donald Trump in the Indiana primary on Tuesday.

The Republican senator was also scheduled to speak in Spokane on Wednesday and in Bothell on Thursday.

Saul Gamoran, the candidate’s Washington state chairman and an attorney, said before Cruz’s announcement the candidate would be in Washington on Wednesday despite the primary results.

After the announcement, Gamoran reportedly said the Washington trip was canceled, according to KING-TV.

There are 44 delegates at stake for the state’s May 24 primary. Ballots will be mailed this week.

Trump was also expected to swing through Washington later this week, and told his campaign chairman Vancouver Republican Don Benton a couple of weeks ago that he plans to visit on Saturday. It is now unclear if Trump still plans to visit Vancouver.

The Washington state Republican convention is May 18-21 in Pasco. John Kasich confirmed on Tuesday he will speak at the convention on May 19.
