This ongoing argument and wild accusations of collusion, corruption and illegal favoritism leveled by Clark County Councilor David Madore over awarding the contract to The Columbian to publish legal notices is about the silliest one yet.
The whole matter could be easily resolved with the state Legislature eliminating the obsolete requirement that legal notices be published in newspapers and permit them to be posted online on county government websites. I understand an effort to permit online notices was made before in Olympia, but it was killed in the House.
Going paperless has saved businesses a lot of expenses, so why wouldn’t such a change save county government as well?
The state Legislature should revisit and enable county government to step into the 21st century and save tax dollars by allowing the counties to go “paperless” with legal notices.
