Letter: Good work by Herrera Beutler

By Bob Blakey, Vancouver

I have to give kudos to Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas. When she originally ran for office one of her promises was to be an independent thinker and not just follow the GOP party line. Based on that promise I supported her.

Although I have been disappointed at times for what looks like her just following the party line, her decision to stand with the administration related to the Zika virus funding deserves the kudos.

My belief is that the fundamental principles of a representative democracy are that our congressional representatives think for themselves, and that means at times going against the party line. Good work on the part of our representative.
