Letter: Kudos to Ecology Youth Corps

By Janine Klug, Vancouver

I’m responding to a recent letter regarding trash on the roads in Clark County and throughout the state, and the writer’s query of whether or not the state cares. Washington has programs in place to clean up our highways, although not enough funding, as programs have been cut in recent years.

One of the current programs is through the Department of Ecology Youth Corps. During the summer the DOE has crews of youngsters, ages 14-17, who work hard to clean up roads in Clark County.

These young people are picked from several hundred who apply and represent the best in youth. Some are working their first job and learning the responsibilities of showing up on time, working as a safe team, doing a good job and taking pride in their work. They don’t need people driving by them, honking their horn and throwing more trash at them. Please respect their hard work for your state.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
