Records: Portland (4-6-4) is eighth in the Western Conference with 16 points from 14 games. San Jose (5-3-5) is tied for fourth in the Western Conference with 20 points from 13 games.

Timbers notes: The Timbers plan to start Fanendo Adi after the striker came on the the last half hour of Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Chicago. Adi, who leads the Timbers with eight goals, missed one match with a hamstring strain. … Diego Valeri has scored in back-to-back matches and has four goals in the last six games to give him five on the season. With Darlington Nagbe away with the U.S. national team, Valeri’s playmaking ability will be important against a physical San Jose defense. … Portland has scored in each of its 14 MLS games this season, but has yet to shut out a foe. … This is the last of three league matches this season between San Jose and Portland, with each winning at home earlier in 2016. … This is the first of only three MLS games in June for Portland. After this match, the Timbers next play on June 14 in the U.S. Open Cup (also against San Jose) before returning to league play with a June 18 trip to Real Salt Lake. … The injury list continues to include starting goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey, right back Alvas Powell, forward Darron Mattocks. Powell and Mattocks could be available for the June 18 match, but Kwarasey will not play in June.

Earthquakes notes: San Jose will be without leading scorer Chris Wondolowski, defenders Kip Colvey and Clarence Goodson and midfielders Anibal Godoy, Alberto Quintero and Simon Dawkins. Wondolowski has scored seven of San Jose’s 16 goals. … San Jose has given up only two goals in its last three games (a win and two draws) and will be tough to break down, according to Timbers coach Caleb Porter. Quakes defender Marvell Wynne credited improved communication and chemistry for San Jose’s successful defending.
