Esther Short — Sixth-grader Alia Rust, 12, spent six months collecting hygiene products, hats and gloves to give out through Share’s Outreach program. Her collection totaled more than $750 in retail value, and was organized into 50-plus Blessings Bags. She also donated $120 to Share. This was Alia’s third drive for the nonprofit. While she received donations from local companies, including Hilton Vancouver Washington, Alder Dental and the Heathman Lodge, according to a release from Share, 60 percent of donations she received came from individuals in the community or relatives. The Hilton’s sales and catering team volunteered to organize the bags for Share.
