Letter: Vote or you get what you deserve

Don Benton’s latest ploy for continuing to feed at the public trough is a good illustration of de Maistre’s observation that “Every country has the government it deserves.”

Benton was elected. David Madore was elected, Tom Mielke was elected and reelected. Voters nominated Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, to loud lamentations by their detractors. By minorities of voters, true, but at least by people who did vote.

The saying “If you don’t vote, you can’t complain” is true. If you don’t like what’s happening, get involved. At the least, vote.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
