Letter: Local connection helps Haiti

By Bob Harper, Vancouver
Published: November 9, 2016, 6:00am

I read with interest The Columbian’s Oct. 29 story, “Haiti struggles for clean water weeks after Matthew.” As the story makes clear, the lack of clean drinking water is perhaps the greatest public health problem in that unlucky country.

Unfortunately, there was no mention in the story that there is a resource with a local connection, Clean Water for Haiti, which has for a number of years been addressing this problem.

This excellent nonprofit, founded and operated by Chris Rolling, son of Vancouver residents Jerry and Sara Rolling, has done yeoman’s work providing simple, inexpensive and durable filters to turn contaminated water into safe drinking water. Their work cannot be too highly praised, and it deserves your support.

I urge readers to visit their website, http://cleanwaterforhaiti.org, to learn more about the outstanding work this organization is doing.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
