Letter: Dog, Humane Society deserve better

By Cheryl Lauerman, BATTLE GROUND

I was flabbergasted after reading the Oct. 29 story “Hunter the Lab back at the pound.” The owner, William Jones of Battle Ground, fought tooth and nail to get his dog back after finding out Hunter had run away and been adopted by another family while Jones was fighting forest fires.

Not only was the Humane Society treated like dog thieves by social media, but the family who had grown attached to this animal was made to feel like they had to give the dog back to the “rightful” owner.

Now, Jones has decided this dog is not worth $125 to get him out of jail after running loose again.

Where is the justice for the family who adopted Hunter, paid far more than that for his care and gave him a loving home, and for the Humane Society that was persecuted for following protocol? Oh, yes, and for Hunter, back at the Humane Society confused and lost, waiting for someone to take him home and give him a forever home.
