Go, Ideas for your weekend: Run out for shopping, music and Shakespeare

1. Run for hunger

Take the weekend to plan for these local Thanksgiving running events.

The 14th annual Run for the Hungry 5K is hosted by Gateway Community Church, which helps raise money and food donations for the church’s food pantry. The pantry helps feed more than 400 families in the Camas and Washougal area. The event kicks off Thanksgiving morning with day-of registration at 7:30 a.m. and the run at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 24. Runners, individuals and competitive five-person teams will lead the run followed by joggers, walkers and families. The course begins at the Washougal High School stadium, 1201 39th St., in Washougal, and winds through neighborhoods and Kerr Park. Registration is $25 to $30, $15 for ages 10 and younger and $115 for five-person teams. Clark County’s annual Turkey Trot features hundreds of runners and walkers setting out Thanksgiving morning on 5K and 10K courses along the Salmon Creek Trail. Race proceeds benefit the Clark County Food Bank. Participants also can register for the Polar Bear Plunge into Klineline Pond, slated for after the race. It all kicks off at 9 a.m. Nov. 24 at Klineline Pond in Salmon Creek Park, 1200 N.E. 117th St., Vancouver. Registration is $25 for races and $5 for the polar plunge. There is no race day registration, so register soon. turkey-trot.org

2. Holiday shopping kickoff

The annual Holiday Gift Fair features a more than 120 vendors offering gift ideas, home decor, jewelry, handicrafts and decorations at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. There will be pet adoption and rescue agencies on site with adoptable animals, along with musical entertainment throughout the day, children’s activities, a live reptile exhibit, pony rides and photos with Santa. The holiday fair is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 18 to 19 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 20. Admission is $5, free for ages 12 and younger, and free for seniors Nov. 18. 3. Bluegrass concert

East Meets West Bluegrass is billed as a concert event two years in the making, with two bluegrass bands — one from Kentucky and one from Oregon — offering a night of music. Kenny Stinson and Perfect Tym’n will bring a traditional Kentucky sound; Kathy Boyd and Phoenix Rising was awarded the 2015 International Music and Entertainment Association Bluegrass Group of the Year. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Old Liberty Theater, 113 N. Main Ave., Ridgefield. Tickets are $15. 360-887-7260 or www.oldlibertytheater.com

4. Theater school

Portland Playhouse and area high school students once again are collaborating for the Fall Festival of Shakespeare, an effort to bring William Shakespeare’s works to life, both on stage and for the students’ participating. Performances will begin at noon and 3. and 5 p.m. Nov. 19; and noon and 5 p.m. Nov. 20 at Winningstad Theatre, 1111 S.W. Broadway, Portland. Three Clark County schools will be represented. Students from Hockinson High School will present the comedy “Twelfth Night” at 3 p.m. Nov. 19; Fort Vancouver High School students will perform the drama “Cymbeline” at 5 p.m. Nov. 19; and Ridgefield High School will perform the tragedy “Hamlet” at 5 p.m. Nov. 20. 5. For the birds

Mingle with artists and authors while meeting a great horned owl and a peregrine falcon at the Wild Arts Festival. There will be nature-related art and books, a silent auction, regional and national artists and authors and 6-inch square original bird paintings for sale. All of the proceeds benefit the Audubon Society of Portland. The Audubon’s education birds will make appearances, and a children’s area will include crafts and storytelling. The festival is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 19 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 20 at Montgomery Park, 2701 N.W. Vaughn St., Portland.
