Letter: Riots are unacceptable

By Curtis Skaar, Stevenson

Elections are over. My chosen candidates did not always win. Those are the facts. Also facts: urban areas tend to vote Democrat, the rural areas tend to vote Republican. Washington politics are dictated by the urban areas contained in the Puget Sound trough (the Seattle area).

Many are dissatisfied by the results of elections. I personally don’t like President Obama, Gov. Inslee or Sen. Murray. However, they were elected and I accept that. I try to influence them with letters and emails.

The election protests are counterproductive. The disruption caused by many protests demonstrates the disregard by the liberal groups for the rights of others. Why is it that the so-called “liberals” are violent when they don’t get their way? Violent protests, including Wall Street and Black Lives Matter protests, are demonstrative of immaturity and disregard of others. Rather than using logic and data to change opinions and results, they seem to like the idea of “mob tactics” to accomplish their aims.

We’ve become a “banana republic.” If you lose an election, you stage a revolution and attempt a coup d’etat. You disrupt lives, destroy property, and generally run wild, knowing that the police cannot interfere. They might injure some poor innocent rioter and cause another riot.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
