Letter: Protest Congress, not Trump

By Wilfred J. Hudson, VANCOUVER

The Trump-presidency protests in our country will not alter his inauguration on Jan. 20. Like it or not, it’s our democracy. Donald Trump’s pre-election campaign promises, only weeks old, are already being broken; he’s surrounding himself with Washington insiders and transition teams of corporate lobbyists, and nepotism in full swing. It would seem the protests would be better directed at Congress, the lawmakers, many of whom have been in office through several presidents.

The continued decline of the middle class, homelessness, poverty, crumbling infrastructure while billions of dollars are sent overseas and $20 trillion in nation debt are something to protest about.

We should not forget the U.S. Supreme Court; it used to be that the mere appearance of partiality would not be tolerated. Now, the Supreme Court judges are conservative or liberal. The Congressional selection process reflects those choices.

The people have the power to stop gridlock party infighting. Complaining doesn’t work, voting them out does.
