Letter: Trump better be fast learner

President Obama said recently that, after a 90-minute meeting with Donald Trump, he believes the man is a pragmatist, not an ideologue.

If Trump shuts the Trans-Pacific Partnership, builds the fence, closes off the world per trade, he’d better find about a be-jillion dollars to invest in education, ASAP, especially vocational schools, to train all those non-college folks in rural America who voted him in to get their jobs back.

Americans have been enjoying lower prices on clothes, toasters, cars, etc., for years. When the cost of everything begins to increase drastically because most all is produced “at home,” buying power of the middle class will virtually vanish, along with what’s left of the middle class. Only the wealthy will be able to buy, and even they can’t buy enough to hold it all up.

As the income gap widens, Social Security and Medicare are slashed, more dispossessed Americans (elderly, disabled) will group together in their one-family spaces, our quality of life will go back to the “good old days” when America was great.

I hope Trump is a quick study of reality, and a pragmatist. But I’ve read he’s lazy and will demand his weekends off. Nope. Wild ride coming, Mr. Toad!
