Portland – The U.S. Marshals Service is defending actions it took to subdue a defense attorney just minutes after seven defendants were acquitted on charges related to their occupation of a federal wildlife refuge.
The U.S. Marshals Service said in court papers filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Portland that attorney Marcus Mumford raised his fists and assumed a combative stance.
Mumford was upset that the marshals were taking Ammon Bundy back into custody and was yelling at the judge.
Bundy faces additional federal charges in Nevada.
Marshals wrestled Mumford to the ground and used a stun gun on him.
He was cited for failure to comply with a federal lawful order and disturbance.
His case will be handled by a federal judge in Washington state.
