Letter: Life gets faster as it goes along

A fellow in his early 80s, nearing the end of his midlife crisis, suggested that as we get older, we get older faster than we did when younger. That is, the decade in life from 60 to 70 is longer than from 70 to 80, and 80 to 90 moves much faster despite being the same time frame.

A friend indelicately compared it to flushing a toilet. The whirlpool moves much slower on the outside, our formative years, which is too slow for us then, but keeps increasing in speed with each decade until we say, “Whoa, Nellie! What’s the hurry?!”

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
