Letter: Vote ‘no’ on Initiative 1491

By Dennis L. Franklin, CAMAS
Published: October 11, 2016, 6:00am

After reading all 20 pages on this initiative, I find out it is not about the mentally ill. Please research I-1491 online prior to voting.

This initiative cast a fishing net to cover many areas. It could include threats of violence within the past year, mental health issues, domestic violence, brandishing a firearm, threatened use of physical force, felony offense or violent crime, controlled substance or alcohol abuse, or acquisition of a firearm. Most of these already have laws on the books regarding possession of a firearm but most are not enforced.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
