In the CVTV interview of candidates for the 18th District, Position 1, Rep. Brandon Vick (R-Vancouver) was asked how the state should deal with the escalating cost of college. Vick replied that, “We have to fund the degree programs that make the most sense for the state.” Continuing, he said we should stop funding a degree that “is not producing something.”
Vick singled out STEM and teacher education as being important. Are we to conclude that those majoring in history, languages, economics, music, business, theater, journalism and philosophy deserve no assistance?
This “solution” is short-sighted and disturbing. My vote will go to Justin Oberg, who will better represent my views.
