Letter: Port should advance with times

By Michael Piper, Vancouver

Port should advance with times read with interest lately that Tesoro-Savage (Vancouver Energy) revised their submission to EFSEC regarding their oil terminal proposal. I also read that they plan to start smaller — and increase later hoping to gain approval for the project.

The truth is there is a surplus of oil in the marketplace and will be for some time. The future is clear.

All car manufacturers are coming out with electric vehicles next year and buses, too, will soon be electric. Tesla and others are adding storage capacity that works well with renewable energy for electric vehicles. Even Saudi Arabia has become one of the largest investors in solar energy. What was it the sheikh said, “We didn’t leave the stone age because we ran out of stones.” Port of Vancouver get on board with future technologies. No oil terminal in Vancouver!

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
