A commercial building in east Vancouver was damaged Monday morning by a fire in one of the structure’s walls and the attic.

Firefighters were called to 15710 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd. at about 6:30 a.m. for a report of an arcing wire, Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Pete Adams said.

When crews got to the scene they noticed smoke coming from the eaves of the building, which houses Mexican restaurant Cactus Ya Ya among other businesses, Adams said. Firefighters called for more crews to respond to the structure fire and made access into the building, Adams said.

Using thermal imaging technology, Adams said, crews found fire in the wall between two businesses, and that the fire had extended into the attic.

They quickly put out the flames, bringing the fire under control in about 20 minutes, Adams said. He did not know which businesses were affected by the fire.
