Letter: Research history of Democrats

By Peter L. Williamson, VANCOUVER
Published: October 18, 2016, 6:00am

In his Oct. 11 letter, “Support Dems for Congress,” Tom Fuelling calls vice presidential candidates religious zealots, asserts either will revoke reproductive freedom for women. Apparently he’s unaware of Roe v. Wade that allows “choice.”

One need not be enamored of Roe v. Wade; it’s the law. One shouldn’t be required to finance someone else’s “choice” or pay for their contraceptives, however.

Fuelling asserts Democrats controlling Congress is the solution. He forgot or doesn’t know Democratic Party history. Dems opposed emancipation, Dems supported KKK for oppression of blacks, Planned Parenthood was founded by eugenicist Margaret Sanger, a Dem, who embraced KKK. Dems take credit for saving us from the Great Depression, but most of what was implemented by FDR was proposed by the previous Republican administration. Dems refused to honor negotiated peace in Vietnam, allowing the fall of that country. Dems enacted “Great Society” programs that destroyed black families, expanding dependence on government handouts. Dems created the Affordable Care Act, the bill Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., exhorted “we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what’s in it.”

Fuelling should research Democratic Party history.
