Prep highlights: Prairie beats Kelso to win 3A GSHL volleyball title

Zoe McBride had 15 kills, two blocks and 11 digs as the Prairie volleyball team wrapped up the 3A Greater St. Helens League title with a 3-0 win over second-place Kelso on Monday.

Prairie won by scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-10.

Tessa Doerfler had 18 digs, two aces and three assists, Molly Packer had 13 digs, and Abby Brotherton had nine kills for the Falcons.

Prairie (11-2, 9-0 3A GSHL) is seeking its sixth consecutive trip to the 3A state tournament.

Stars of the day

• Edmund Hsu and Loc Ngo, Mountain View boys tennis, helped cap the Thunder’s 3A district team championship by winning their second-place doubles match 6-4, 7-6 over teammates Josh Kim and Sam So. Both teams advance to bi-district.

• Kevin Oleksiyenko, Prairie boys tennis, won his second-place singles match at the 3A district tournament 6-3, 6-1 over Bryant Nguyen of Hudson’s Bay. They both advance to bi-district.

• Ja’Vonne Williams, Evergreen volleyball, had nine kills, 18 digs, and five aces in a win over Fort Vancouver.

• Haley Walz, Fort Vancouver volleyball, had nine kills, five digs, two aces and 14 assists against Evergreen.

• Gabby Harper, Mountain View volleyball, had 11 kills, four digs and a block as the Thunder came back from losing the first two sets and beat Hudson’s Bay 3-2.
