Letter: Trump better than alternative

By Don Plasterer, VANCOUVER

I am a life-long Republican and am getting sick and tired of others who call themselves Republicans, especially those in high places, who say they cannot, with good conscience, support the party’s nominee for president, Donald Trump.

Trump was certainly not my choice either, early on, but he has won the nomination fair and square, defeating 15 or 16 other well-qualified contenders, and now deserves the support of the entire party. If there was a viable second choice it would be a different story but do they really want Hillary Clinton in there? Because that’s what they are going to get if they don’t vote for Trump.

Are they so naive as to think they are going to elect some third-party candidate? Weren’t they alive when Ross Perot, a truly viable candidate, ran and all he managed to do was hand the election to Bill Clinton?

And talking about not supporting the candidates chosen by the people, our Clark County Republican Committee demagogues apparently think they are so much smarter than the people they represent that they have chosen not to endorse three candidates chosen by the people in the primary elections. And you wonder why a growing number of people are sick of politicians in general.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
