Letter: Hold military accountable

By Donald Smith, Battle Ground

With all the media distractions about the upcoming elections, here’s a story that won’t be in the mainstream media but should be very concerning to all Americans.

Apparently the U.S. Army made $6.5 trillion (with a “T”) in wrongful adjustments to accounting entries for the year 2015. According to one news service (Reuters) that did cover the story, the Army lacked receipts or invoices to support the adjustments or simply made them up.

According to a story by Fair.org, the U.S. government passed a law in 1996 that all federal agencies must comply with federal accounting standards. The Army has never done this, making their budgets virtually unaccountable.

How was our money spent? Where did these adjustments come from? The military gets by far the most amount every year of our taxes but produces an annual accounting that cannot even be audited. I would much rather know more about this than anything Donald Trump had to say today. How about you? For more information got to Fair.org or search recent Reuters stories.
